Abstract
Globally, there have been concerted efforts to monitor quality and regulate the growing business of herbal drugs and traditional medicine. Health authorities and governments of various nations have taken an active interest in providing standardized botanical medications. India has one of the richest plant medical traditions in the world. To generate and obtain a commercial niche in the international arena Indian herbal R&D institutes require the formulation and execution of pragmatic strategy. Several Government initiatives in recent years have contributed significantly towards standardization and globalization of traditional Indian Medicine. Continued R&D efforts are required in India for better definition of the existing products, improved understanding of the mechanism of their action, modified composition at molecular level and better understanding of interactions amongst various molecules. |

Abstract
The term adaptogen is used by herbalists to a natural herb product that is proposed to increase the body's resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue. In the past, they have been called rejuvenating herbs, tonics, rasayanas, or restoratives.
Adaptogens are the agents originating from plants that are used to protect the body from various kinds of stress stimulating the body’s own self regeneration process. These agents support body’s own immune system and thus regulates body process and improve overall health.

Abstract
Ocimum sanctum Linn. (Labiatae) is popularly known as the “Holy Basil” or “Tusli” in India and it is also well known as a home remedy for various illnesses. Traditionally, it has been used as demulcent in the treatment of cough, mild upper respiratory tract syndrome, worm infestations and also as diuretics. The plant has been evaluated scientifically for immunomodulatory, anti-stress, antimicrobial, anti-asthmatic, hypoglycemic, antioxidant and hypotensive activities. |

Abstract
Vedas literally means “Truth” or “Knowledge” or “Awareness”. Sanskrit is the language in which all Vedas were scripted. Sanskrit means culturally evolved. Vedas are the spiritual & social foundations of Indian ethos and these are the most ancient literary work known to man. Vedas were the cumulative compilations by different exalted sages &seers at different times in the history. These also contain the methods and measures adopted for health and treatment. According to Hindu Mythology, Brahma created the universe. He created Vedas by condensing the knowledge subtly diffused in the whole universe in a latent form. The Vedas contain information about the universe and all that exist within it. Hence, it contains knowledge about life too.
So, Brahma is regarded as the Adya (first) Guru of Ayurveda.
